Large Volume
Mail Pick-ups
When your department
has a large quantity of mail, bulk mailings, or cartons to be picked
up, please call the Mail Center at least two hours before your
scheduled pick-up. Our mail carts are not large enough for heavy loads
and we may need a hand truck. We can even arrange for a special
pick-up for extra large loads.
Personnel
Directory System
Your help is needed to
make sure that the information in our directory system remains updated
and accurate. Whenever a member of the University Community relocates,
the following information should be sent, in writing, to the mailroom:
Full name, Social Security number, New Department, Building, Room
Number, Phone Extension and the effective date. Failure to notify the
mailroom could result in improper routing of your mail.
Zip Codes
Do you need a
zip code? You may call the U. S. Post Office Customer Service number
at 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777). You can also purchase a National Zip
Code Directory through Purchasing Services at 348-2161 or get
information on the Web at:
www.usps.com
University
Generic Envelope Usage
When using generic
University envelopes (available form Central Stores), please be sure
to include your department name in the return address. This is
important so any returns can be sent back to your office.
Express
Mail Deadlines
The Post Office has
imposed certain deadlines on Express Mail for guaranteed next day
delivery. Many deadlines are at 11:30 AM. To meet this deadline, the
University Park Mail Center leaves for the post office at 11:00 AM
daily. Any Express Mail received after 11:00 AM will go out the next
day, unless the sending department takes it directly to the Olympia
Heights Post Office. Call the Mail Center for deadlines to specific
cities.
C.O.D.'s
The University Park
Mail Center does not have a permit for sending C.O.D. (Cash on
Delivery) mail.
Duplicate
Mail Vouchers
Mail voucher pads are
provided free of charge to departments. If, however, your department
requires duplicates of vouchers returned, you must print your own
vouchers on NCR (self-carbon stock), including your department name
and account number. We will return the second copy, showing postage
charges, with your next mail delivery. The F.I.U. Duplicating Center
can print these forms for you. It must be a photo copy of our voucher.
We will still need separate vouchers for each type of mail as
described in the AVouchered Mail@ section of this guide.
Campus
Mail Boxes
There are several U.S.
Post Office mail boxes located on both campuses. These boxes are for
stamped outgoing mail only. Do not put interoffice or voucher mail
into these boxes. The mailrooms do not have access to these boxes, and
the mail goes directly to the Post Office.
